Separated by 2,781 miles and on two different continents, Iraqi and Nigerian Christians share similar stories of persecution. From 2014-2018, portions of Northern Iraq were under the control of the militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and many religious minorities, including Christians, experienced persecution and violence as a result. In the northern and central portions of Nigeria, violence towards Christians and other minority groups has also increased in recent years at the hands of Boko Haram and other groups.
The Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center is honored to share the stories of those displaced in Iraq and Nigeria through Among the Persecuted and Displaced — a collection of photographs taken by Stephen Rasche. The Knights of Columbus has sponsored some of Rasche’s work in both countries, bringing to light the atrocities inflicted on those persecuted for their faith.

What turns a simple drawing of a chair or a tree into a true work of art? It’s the artist’s imagination, emotions, and creativity.
Embark on a journey of transformation, reimagining everything around us—trees, flowers, birds, animals, everyday objects, and more—as unique artworks. Students will refine their skills in realistic sketching, while also exploring innovative ways, like altering size, context, or perspective, to infuse imagination into their drawings.
Transform realistic drawings into fantastical scenes and create something extraordinary!

Buzz Gordo and Darla Dangler, a/k/a Gary Mezzi and Kriss Santala, have been musical collaborators on the New Haven scene for many years, dating back to when Kriss sang background vocals on recording and live shows with Buzz’s old Band Big Bad Johns. They’ve shared a lot of stages over the years, but this is the first time they are playing out as a duo proper.
You know Darla from her namesake band The Danglers as well as from groups like La Tunda, the Hiccups, the Who Whos, and more. Buzz currently fronts Bronson Rock, and was guitarist and songwriter for Gone Native and Big Bad Johns.

Sol and The Tribu is a group of Cuban musicians who blend traditional Caribbean music and modern technology with a Miami twist. As ambassadors of the New Miami Sound, they pride themselves on what makes Miami “The Magic City,” with its blend of Caribbean influences and American swamp funk.
Sol and The Tribu — “tribu” means tribe — has seven members, but more than 20 musicians and creatives form the Tribu Collective. Together, they curate and produce original material that represents the 305 and its cultural diversity.
The band is led by Sol Ruiz, a Grammy-nominated international recording artist and multi-instrumentalist. Hailing from Miami, Ruiz sings and writes in her native tongue, Spanglish, and has toured in Europe, Canada and the Caribbean. Ruiz was a featured performer in an indie opera developed and produced by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Beth Morrison Projects.
The band’s most recent EP, Positive Vibration Nation, released in fall 2020, was created during the coronavirus pandemic. Conceptually, it encourages positive thinking and is an uplifting portrait of the band in times of uncertainty. Sol and The Tribu was a recipient of the Arsht Center’s Heart of Art commissioning award for their “Corona Conga Online” video in 2020.

Inspired by the real stories of New Haven apizza pioneers, Family Business: (A)Pizza Play follows the Carbonizatto family’s pizza shop from it’s immigrant beginnings as it passes down over generations. This production explores New Haven’s pizza magic (la magia dell'apizza) from New Haven’s cultural and historic connection to pizza.
Family Business: (A)Pizza Play is a special collaboration with CitySeed and Sanctuary Kitchen, highlighting New Haven’s food culture, and celebrating the impact of 100 years of immigrant entrepreneurship in New Haven. Performances are at 162 James St., New Haven, future home of CitySeed’s operations, food incubator, and Sanctuary Kitchen.
THE CARBONIZATTO STORY
Pizza is a big deal in New Haven. We’re the Pizza Capital of America, after all. A Broken Umbrella Theatre has always wanted to tell the New Haven Apizza story, but not as a biography of any pizzaioli, but as a story of all of them. To do that, they took New Haven’s Apizza people and joined them into the fictionalized Carbonizzatto Family. Carbonizzatto, from the Italian for “carbonized” — a knowing wink to the black-dusted fingers walking out of any apizza shop.
Last year, in A Slice, we saw multiple generations of the Carbonizzattos throughout history, but always in New Haven and always at their pizza shop. The Carbonizattos struggled from generation to generation as they grappled with what they owe to future Carbonizattos — and what did they owe to those who came before? Because this is part of a larger story, and it’s not just about Apizza, it’s about a family. A Slice was only the seed for this full production, or as Bruno Cantante sings in the show, “One slice don’t make a pie.”

Caribbean Nationals have been a part of the rich culture of New Haven since the 1900's or longer. In 2014 under the Distinguished Patronage of Hon. Mayor Toni N. Harp and the City of New Haven we were invited to showcase our rich culture at City Hall. We had approximately 200 people sharing, learning, reminiscing, tasting and just overall having a "gran ole time".
The celebration has turned into an annual festival named The New Haven Caribbean Heritage Festival to enjoy performances, delicious Caribbean cuisine, beautiful displays of islands and colorful costumes. We will be celebrating 11th festival in 2025, aptly hosted in June which is dubbed National Caribbean American Heritage Month.
In true Caribbean Style - FAMILY TIME, MUSIC, DANCING & FOOD.

Goose is an American rock band known for its genre-blending sound, improvisational live performances, and dedicated fan base. The band is Rick Mitarotonda (vocals, guitar), Peter Anspach (vocals, keys, guitar), Trevor Weekz (bass), and Cotter Ellis (vocals, drums). Their music — a deft union of indie-rock hooks, sprawling improvisation, and driving rhythm — has propelled them from performing in Connecticut basements to headlining some of the most revered stages in the country. Known for their strong DIY ethos, Goose has grown organically through relentless touring and utilizing platforms like YouTube, Bandcamp, and nugs.net to share live performances and connect with fans.
On April 25, Goose will release its fourth studio album, Everything Must Go (No Coincidence Records). The first release since 2022’s critically acclaimed Dripfield, Everything Must Go marks the band’s evolution since its inception in 2014. Drawing from the feel of its live performances, the album features a carnivalesque cast of characters — primarily songs written throughout the bands recent years of growth, including re-imagined live staples and songs that capture the band’s evolving, dynamic sound.
“Give it Time”, the first single released from the upcoming album is a product of Goose’s reconfiguration and reinvention in 2024. The song unfurls triumphantly, the voice of doubt overwhelmed by a soaring guitar and five-part harmonies. “Give It Time” is about coming out from under it, the grace of a fresh start, and letting the world come to you.
Since their earliest days recording 2016’s Moon Cabin in a barn in northern New Hampshire, Goose has been developing their unique approach to writing and improvising, achieving a rare balance between thoughtfully crafted songs, tight musicianship, and emotional honesty. 2022 saw the release of their critically acclaimed third LP, Dripfield. That album earned them #2 on Billboard’s “Top New Artist Albums” chart as well as praise from Rolling Stone, who called it “both sweet headphone ear candy and the foundation for a perfect live peak.” The accolades were yet another feather in the band’s cap, having sold out venues like Radio City Music Hall, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Forest Hills Stadium, headlining MSG Summer of 25, performed on the likes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CBS Saturday Morning, and played their share of iconic music fests, including Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, ACL and many more. Through their commitment to forward momentum, Goose continues to remind us that music isn’t simply played—it’s felt, lived, and shared.

This talk will explore two works by Tracey Emin through the lens of her hometown, Margate. The seaside town of Margate is not merely a backdrop for Emin, but a vital source of creative inspiration, just as it was for artists and writers past, including J. M. W. Turner, T. S. Eliot, and Charles Dickens. Emin’s identification with Margate, shaped by formative and turbulent years spent there, is central to her artistic persona—indeed, during the late 1990s Emin coined the moniker “Mad Tracey from Margate.” Lily Waterton will examine how Emin's personal mythology intertwines with the social and geographic context of the place she continues to call home.
